Rob's Ramblings

Yikes, I'm slipping! I used to be so good about blogging regularly, but life has kept me so busy, I rarely have time to stop and blog. At the time of this posting, we are in the throes of a winter storm. I do believe we are at the tail-end of it, however. The majority of the precipitation has been ice, and about a quarter-inch of it. There are limbs, trees, and wires down all throughout town, our yard included. We have been fortunate, as the bigger limbs have missed our house. Our neighbor's porch and wooden fence took a hit, but it looks like nothing was seriously damaged. As a precaution, our school district has cancelled school tomorrow. Yes, I am devastated at this surprise day off. **Insert sarcasm here, LOL**. Church service attendance was lower than usual, with about half of our people gone. Fortunately, the temperatures rose up to above freezing today, and sidewalks and streets are pretty much clear, but they are forecasting more ice overnight, thus the school closings. Some parts of town are without power, but we're still up and running at our house, **knock on wood**.

We had a very nice Thanksgiving this past week. We spent the day at my cousin's house in Wichita. We had an abundance of fabulous food and fun, but was had to leave earlier than anticipated, as the temperatures began to drop and the freezing rain was bearing down on us. Saturday was scheduled to be a second Thanksgiving at another cousin's in Salina, but due to the ice, we had to nix that trip. We gathered at my sister's instead and enjoyed our family being together. It was great.

The day before Thanksgiving, I had a wonderful open house at my place. We had 34 guests over the course of the evening, and I so enjoyed getting to visit with everybody and sharing my goodies with them. Everything on my menu was available, plus crockpots of BBQ little smokies and honey-BBQ wings. A good time was had by all.

In a disappointing turn of events, the doors on my December trip have closed. My original plan was to head out on my mission trip over Christmas break, returning somewhere around the first of the year. It is simply not going to work out this time around. This is a bitter pill for me to swallow, as my heart is in Mexico. While I am good to go for next Summer, I had my heart set on a trip in December, and I am very sad about this. I have to accept that God has a plan, and for some reason, He does not want me to go on this trip. I have to accept that, even though it is not easy. In the meantime, all donations and monies are safely stored in an account at my church, ready to draw upon when my next trip comes up.  I will keep you all updated as to what direction this takes. I thank you all who have prayed, donated, or bought goodies to support my cause. My heart is still strong for the people of Mexico, and I still feel called to be there on a more permanent basis in the future.

I'd like to apologize for my long lapse between blog posts. I'll try to improve in that area. I thank you for reading. May God bless you richly this week!                ***Rob***
